The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is a project implemented by the City of Zagreb with the aim of developing a system for the care of native wild species that have been found sick, injured, wounded, or poisoned. New accommodation capacities of the Rehabilitation Center, which operates within the Zagreb Zoo Institution, are being built and equipped, conditions for the reception and transport of animals, the provision of veterinary care are being provided, and a summer house for protected birds is being built.
Specific objectives of the project:
- Construction and equipping of a new recovery facility in Dumovec. In addition to the construction of the facility, it is necessary to improve the ability of the Institution to capture and transport found animals by purchasing and equipping a new vehicle.
- Strengthening the capacity of the Institution for reception and care of protected wild species through training and education of staff and associates, improvement of the information system for records of animals in care, notification of found animals and recovery operations, and improvement of the system for monitoring the return of animals.
- Raising public awareness about the conservation of species that are cared for in the convalescent home through a promotional educational campaign, development, and implementation of volunteer programs, and professional internship programs for high school and college students.
The new facility will have 20 accommodation units for over 30 species of protected animals, of which 2 quarantine units (one for birds and the other for other animals). This will significantly increase the capacity of the convalescent home. In addition to accommodation facilities, the facility will be equipped with a modern veterinary clinic that will ensure adequate reception of animals, providing appropriate veterinary care and implementation of basic veterinary treatments and treatments.
Mediahint, as a public relations agency, will ensure the promotion and visibility of the project to the general and professional public in order to promote the project, its results, and sources of funding. Activities will consist of organizing information events, preparing and printing posters, leaflets, project brochures, information boards, stickers for equipment and vehicles, announcements about the implementation of the project on the Zoo’s website and press releases.
As part of the project, the capacities of the Institution will be strengthened through the education and training of employees and associates, and the systems for recording animals and their monitoring after returning to nature will be improved. The educational campaign and professional programs will work on raising public awareness about the conservation of wild species and the work of convalescent homes.
